Set up Lisar for TVs and consoles

Choose a direct client or router connection

The current native Lisar Android app is for phones and tablets. These TV instructions use independently maintained clients or a compatible router. A vendor's OpenVPN support identifies a possible manual method; the exact Lisar profile, app version and device still need to work together.

Prepare the right profile

Open your active profile in the Lisar panel. Use its server, VPN account and IPsec values for L2TP/IPsec, or its downloaded .ovpn file for OpenVPN. Your website sign-in password is not automatically your VPN password.

Start with L2TP/IPsec where the device, firmware and network support a suitable connection. OpenVPN is the alternative where they do not. Only those two protocols are covered here; other options offered by a device are not Lisar connection methods.

Keep the profile file private when moving it to a TV. Use the client's documented transfer flow or storage you control. Avoid public file-sharing links and unofficial app-download websites. If a device has no usable import flow, the router method avoids transferring a file to that device.

Android TV and Google TV

OpenVPN for Android, maintained by Arne Schwabe, is a third-party client whose project documents Android TV support and TV-specific fixes. This is different from both OpenVPN Connect and the Lisar native Android app. Availability and remote-control behavior vary by device.

1. Use the project's official distribution link and check that the client can be installed on your TV.
2. Make the active Lisar OpenVPN profile available using the supported file-selection flow. Import it into the client and save the profile.
3. Resolve any unsupported configuration option before connecting; do not delete authentication or certificate checks.
4. Connect, approve the Android VPN permission and check the client status. Test the TV application that will use the connection.

If the remote cannot operate the file picker or the client is not available for your device, continue with the router method below. A successful phone setup does not establish TV compatibility.

Apple TV

Passepartout is a third-party OpenVPN client listed for Apple TV. The current listing requires tvOS 17 or later. Its basic TV connections are time-limited; removing that limit requires an in-app purchase from the client developer. Check the current listing before choosing it.

1. Install Passepartout from its official Apple TV App Store listing and select the OpenVPN profile route.
2. Import the Lisar file using the app's current transfer instructions. The developer documents direct upload from a browser as well as management through its iPhone or Mac app.
3. For a local browser upload, use a trusted local network and the address displayed by your TV. Do not expose that upload endpoint to the Internet.
4. Approve the VPN configuration, connect and confirm the client status before testing your TV application.

Passepartout supports common OpenVPN options and does not support compression. If the actual profile is rejected, ask about the reported option rather than editing it blindly. The router route remains available where compatible.

Fire TV and Fire TV Stick

Choose the router method first when you cannot confirm a usable OpenVPN client and import flow on your Fire TV model. Android-based software alone does not establish compatibility: the OpenVPN for Android project has a reported Fire TV file-picker problem that prevents selecting a profile on affected devices.

If you already have a supported third-party client, verify that it accepts your actual Lisar profile and can be operated with your device's controls. There is no native Lisar Fire TV download offered here.

Smart TVs, consoles and the router route

For a Samsung Tizen or LG webOS television, Roku, PlayStation, Xbox or another connected device without a verified local profile-import method, use a compatible router. The same path can serve an Apple TV or Android TV when installing a local client is inconvenient.

1. Follow the router guide and establish a suitable L2TP/IPsec or OpenVPN client connection.
2. Add the TV or console to the router's VPN device list or routing policy. On a separate Wi-Fi network, confirm that network is routed through the tunnel.
3. Connect the device by Ethernet or to that Wi-Fi network and test its actual route. A guest network or excluded device may use another route.
4. Keep using the device normally; the router carries its selected traffic without a Lisar app on the device.

This method is network routing, not a native TV or console client. It does not guarantee that a streaming catalog, account region or online game will change, or that a provider will accept the VPN exit.

Check streaming, casting and local devices

Check the tunnel after restarting the TV, waking it or changing Wi-Fi. A download completed successfully or a saved profile does not prove that the connection is active. If playback fails, distinguish a network or DNS problem from an account, subscription or service restriction.

Casting often depends on the phone and TV being able to discover each other on the local network. Keep them on the intended LAN and review guest isolation or routing rules before changing the VPN profile.
